BMBF

Our projects founded by BMBF:
    • KOKOS
    • SIDATE
    • Fab101
    • INFOSTROM (previous)
In general
  • In this funding scheme, we are very successful
  • political interests: creating and preserving job
Characteristics:
  • to answer to societal challenges and have to state that very clear
  • Difficult to move university into more practice things
  • a lot of effort has been put in involving more practical university to join those calls
  • possible topics:
    • digitalization of society
    • ageing of society
    • digitalization of the medical sector
    • crisis management
  • here it is a disadvantage to work with professors from the same university because you need a very good argument why you think that you find the best expert to work on the project at the same place
  • in the rhetoric of the idea you have to motivate very much why you chose those persons for doing that research
Application language:
  • mainly German (there could exist some calls in English)
Application process:
  • It’s a good idea to call the funding agencies and ask how many projects they are expecting
  • 10-15 pages of sketch of the project (structure of the sketch is given; you can find it on the website of BMBF)
  • letter of intent from the project partners
  • after the first evaluation you are asked to submit a whole project application (here administrative aspects are more important)
  • number of participants: from 2 up to 7, the smallest the number the better it is, but the number and the structure of partners needs to meet the requirements of the ideas
  • You have to state how you are going to develop society, that’s why you have to involve business partners; because you do not change society as university, you can change society involving direct actors of the society;
Challenges:
  • changes between university and university for applied science; difficult in guarantee a PhD position in there (I have to revise that!)
