Generic Application Scenario
The project will empower end users who are not application developers to work with services deployed on Internet or Intranet. At present we aim to cover two types of end user service composition:
- Home Automation for Optimised Energy Efficiency (see HomeAutomation page)
- Information on your fingertips in a distributed organisation (see VoestAlpine page)
In both cases our users are non-programmers, who do programming to support their main job task. In the home automation case, we have the people living in a town who do software development / service composition to optimise their own home. In the VoestAlpine
case, we have process engineers and middle management who use service composition to achieve up-to-date information from their production processes, and optimise the way they run.
Because of the differences in the application domain and background profiles of our users, we expect two levels of knowledge to emerge out of our observations and interactions with these users: domain independent knowledge relating to the way people would assemble information and services, and domain-specific knowledge about specific task-oriented representations and metaphors appropriate for each case.
